Anybody have an old, junk 986 top lying around?

It occurred to me yesterday that if I had an old, 1997-02 top that was in terrible condition (ripped back window, etc.), I could use it to make a "targa" top for my Boxster and remove the existing top assembly entirely, including the top motors.

The concept is simple: I would cut the "junk" top right where it meets the Brey-Krause rollbar extension on my car. I would fabricate a PVC "clamp" to attach the rear of the "junk" top to the rollbar extension. At the front of the top, I would simply use the existing latch assembly. When the "targa top" is not in use, it should be able to fit in the rear trunk.

Bear in mind, I never drive my Boxster when there is a chance of rain in the forecast, which doesn't mean that I've never gotten caught in the rain. (Darn weathermen...) But with the windows up, while driving, the interior of the car would be covered with the exception of the area behind the driver and passenger. (Of course, leaving it parked in the rain would be a recipe for disaster... I might need to pack a car cover in the trunk as well, just in case.)

Anyway, just spitballin' here. Curious to know if anyone has already tried this? And does anyone know how much the complete top assembly weighs? (The only real reason to do this would be for the weight savings.)
