Brake Pad Sensor Question
 

Just replaced my pads yesterday and planned on using the old sensors since they hadn't gone off. However the sensor tip was brittle and I accidentally broke it off when I tried to remove them from the old pads. Since I didn't plan on putting in new sensors I didn't buy any before starting the job. So I just left the sensors plugged in to the electrical system without putting the sensor tip into the pad. Of course now the brake warning lights are on.

Can I eliminate the warning lights by just unplugging the other end of the sensor from the electrical system??

No.

The sensor lights when the circuit is broken.

What you can do is pull the sensors, splice the broken wire together again and then just cable-tie them out of the way. This will eliminate the light.

Of course, you won't have a sensor to tell you your pads are worn. One trick is to measure the pads and mark them with a white paint pen at the maximum wear point. That way, you can easily visually check when the pads require changing.

So just to make sure I know what you mean.... do i remove what's left of the remaining broke sensor tips and then twist all the wires together?

Do I twist together both inside and outside pad wires together, or just twist together the inside ones and seperately the outside ones?

Personally, I would buy the sensor...it will save you from scaring your rotor. ;)

I have some old sensors laying around - let me know if you want one. I also have some new ones in the wrapper still if you want new...
