Great road trip
 

Just got back from a 2 day, 1000km road trip. We (wife unit and I) drove from Winnipeg up 6 to 68, stopped for a picnic lunch at The Narrows, and then drove out past Roblin on 5, almost to the Saskatchewan border, to a place called Lost Meadows Resort. We stayed in a fair-sized cabin that came equipped with all the amenities. Absolutely beautiful scenery and excellent accommodations.

After dinner we went for a drive to explore the area and found this glass-smooth side road, 482, that twisted through the hills (and I mean twisted!) for about 20 miles down to Aessissippi Park. What a ride! I don't often get a chance to wind 'er out through the twisties, what with living on an ancient lake bed and all, and I took full advantage. Damn I love this car!

Next day we drove back along 5 and down 10 through Riding Mountain Park. I've lived in Manitoba all my life and I had never been to this part of it before. We took our time (you don't drive so fast when there's a good chance of suddenly finding a massive moose or elk standing in the middle of the road) and we stopped and checked out anything even remotely interesting. We had a late lunch in Wasagaming and then drove home along the Yellowhead through Neepawa, stopping to see the Margaret Lawrence house (gotta humor the other half sometimes).

All in all, it was an excellent couple of days. Even though rain was forecast, we didn't see a drop. The car performed flawlessly and we both really had a blast.

Excellent, you've got me encouraged... I leave tomorrow for a seven day trip in my Boxster. I'm going to go see the Redwoods in Northern California and then head down the coast along Highway 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway) to Big Sur. I'm just going to relax and take it nice and slow. It should be some great driving.

I've got someone riding along too. My Chinese Assistant will be joining me and she's packing very light (all of her clothes are skimpy), so it should be interesting. :cool: The Box is almost full, so I'll have to see if I can hone the shoes she's bringing just down to five pair. :p

Every year my wife and I do at least a 1250 mile road trip with the Boxster`Up the coast, down the coast, into Canada, whatever. The best part of having my wife with me is sharing time together, the worst is here constant speed recomendation reminders. Ed

A day after I took possession of my Boxster ( prepurchase deal included 30k mile service), I went on a 2,000 mile trip with my wife. Car drove flawlessly, comfortable with plenty of room for our stuff. I'm going on a long trip this weekend to Western NY and am looking forward to the drive. I'm surprised how versatile these cars can be.

Hi, I also got back from a 7 day stay in Niagara Falls with wife, the ride from Montreal was just incredible besides the constant check your speed reminders every 10 minutes :D .

I can't believe how economical and comfortable the boxster is on long trips and all the stuff my wife manages to fit in the trunks.

There are many nice convertibles (Roadsters Not Sebrings :D ) out there but as functional and fun to drive as the boxster none IMO.

My Latest Trip
 

Got back a few minutes ago from a 1700 mile trip through OH, IN, WI, MN, SD, IA and IL. Couldn't be smoother. The Box got just over 29 MPG the whole way (1998 Base). More than enough luggage room for the wife and me. Sailing along at 80 with the top down is one of life's joys. Just wish the truck drivers would be more like the gentlemen of the highway they used to be. When it take a truck ten minutes to pass another truck it gets a bit aggravating.

Trip to West Coast
 

I just got back a few hours ago from a 7 day, 2,000 mile trip to the redwoods, Pacific Coast Highway, and sequoias. Attached is a photo from Kings Canyon. The roads were great, the car was great for the roads, and we hauled a lot of camping gear. I think the Box is very practical for a sports car. Unfortunately the temperatures stayed around 58 F most of the time, so I got zero quality pictures of the Assistant.

The car had a few issues, mostly related to age though. My Falken tires still had some tread when we left, but they were getting down to the wear bars. The tires just started falling apart though, leaving tons of rubber dust on the rear bumper. Within a few days the tread was gone and I was down to cords. An emergency stop in San Francisco then got us setup with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. We also had a check engine light come on - P1128 and P1130. Cleared it just to have it come back a couple days later... annoying. I'll have to look into that problem. Then on the last day the plastic window (10 years old) cracked. I guess now it's time for a new top with glass window. I'm just a bit bummed that I have to shell out for the new top now after dumping nearly $1,300 on tires! :p
