My $32.00 GT3 mod.... now w/ new pics!

Well, I thought I give this a shot.

Part # is 997-575-327-90-01C "Hider", it's also called the upper grill. Cost of the mod was 30 for the grill and 2 for some black silicone.

Total time to do this about 1.5 hours, taking my time.

Tools: Dremel and some sandpaper.

Procedure was straight forward, place grill on top of bumper cover, outline cutline, use Dremel to cut, smooth edges, glue in using the silicone. I also painted the bumper black (that's the aluminum bar) so it does not shine through.

Notes: The grill is just a bit too wide so it can't go right below the hood line but a little lower. I did not trim the left and right "overhang" of the grill. I think I leave it as it is for now, maybe later. The grill itself follows the bumper cover profile perfectly!

I did not change anything else, I still search for the right part#s to do the front radiator relocation and shrouding. Anybody have this info?

Looking forward to your comments fellow Boxsters!!

Later,
Andy

The rare Tom Selleck edition? ;)

I've always liked that grill on the GT3's.

Kenny Boxster 05-15-2013 10:06 AM

Hrmm. Is there a 996 part number equivalent that better accommodates a higher mounting point in regards to the grill?

woodsman 05-15-2013 10:13 AM

looks congruent , looks good!

The Radium King 05-15-2013 10:48 AM

no 996 equivalent - I wish someone would make one. your only option is to cut slots in the cover like a 996 gt3 rs

thstone 05-15-2013 11:11 AM

Very daring! I'd be afraid that I'd ruin my bumper cover. Looks great.

Perfectlap 05-15-2013 11:12 AM

I bought this and the GT3 bumper at the same time. But I just didn't have the nerve to cut into the bumper.

You r car certainly looks happy about the mod! It's smiling!~:D

AndyA6 05-15-2013 03:43 PM

Old thread is old..... Yeah, lots of people think smile.

It was really not that bad to cut into the bumper.....

986_c6 05-15-2013 10:32 PM

Smile! Good thing the black bumper doesn't accentuate the smiling grill. On any other color, it would show greatly because it is not flush with the headlights.

I be all over this if it followed the trunk line.
