Need some help with ?'s on wheels

Hi All,

I am considering the two wheels below, TSW Montage and 2006 Boxster wheels.

The TSW's are 19x8 up front and 19x9.5 in the rear. The seller has verirfied that these fit on 986's with no spacers and they just came off of one. I really like the look of these, but I am worried that I'll encounter some rubbing in the wheel well.

Anyone had experience with running 19's on a 986?

The Boxster wheels are 17 (same size as my current stock wheels).

Could someone verify that the 2006 Boxster wheels will fit my 1999 base Boxster?

Thanks

Er, this is not a 2006 Boxster (ie 987) wheel:

That's a late model Boxster 986 wheel, no newer than 2003/4.

Those 17"s came from 2003-2004 models.

Do you realize they are huge differences in ride quality and cost of tires between the two?

19" will also make your car look like it's jacked up if you have stock suspension.

Ah, ok. Just going by what the seller is saying. Do you know if this will fit my 99 986? Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I have the stock suspension. Plan on upgrading, but it won't be for a while. I'm aware of the cost difference in the tires and I am leaning towards the Boxster wheels if they fit my 986. I figured that the 19's would make the car ride pretty harsh...

Sorry... I just find most OEM Porsche wheels to be boring looking, so I voted for the TSW. Even still I prefer the look of wheels with a wide lip on them, especially in the back, so I don't think the TSW are quite a nice as some designs you can find. With the TSW too you'll need to really decide if you want the shinny chrome. Some people (like me) think it's just a bit too much bling for Porsche wheels.

As for sizes... I've got 18's on my Boxster and 19's on my 996. I think the 18's are just about perfect. I've got my car lowered so that it looks good with the rims.

Honestly, I would say the original 17-inch twists are by far the best looking wheel on a 986 Box. I'd think twice before changing them. Certainly the new 17-inch design you posted is a step backwards - there's nothing particularly "Porsche" about them.

Those 17s are called "Boxster S IIs" and they will fit your car well (I own 3 sets ). I am not a bling guy so I like the fact that they fit well, look decent, clean up easily, are strong and light weight, and a $150 tire costs $150 instead of $400 ea. as quality 19" tires often do... if you can find them.

Not a fan of 19" wheels on a Boxster. Heavy, make the car slow, easily bent, expensive rubber and just look like wagon wheels.

Caveat: Just one guys opinion here and others will surely disagree. Ultimately it is your car and you are the only one you need to please.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys! I'm leaning towards the 17's at this point.

I think 2006 Boxster S wheels would look the best, not exactly because I still have a set to sell..........well, yeah that's my main reason!!
BTW, I'll make you a hell of a deal on them!!

Quickurt...please send me info on wheels to Bonefx@comcast.net. I might replace my 19's on my 2003 Boxster.
Thanks,
Bob
