ignitin switch

So I decided to replace the ignition switch. The key was kind of funny and would not come out or go in easily. I looked up some old threads and found this is a common problem. OK, went to perdros DIY page and thought, that's easy enough. You have to be a munchkin to fit in there. I was the picture of him on his web page. How the he-- does he fit in there? and then how small does the screw driver need to be to get it in the screws. Is it possible that its philips or allen keys to get the screws out? I need to go get a smaller screwdriver now. the one I tried was just too big. So, jobs still not done.

And what really su--s is that I have to wear glasses to see that close, makes it real challenging.

Here's how an very ingenious person tackled the job:



The screws are not phillips, or torx, or allen. they're flat.
But, if they've never been loosened before, they still have the OEM thread lock.

BTW, I don't even try to crawl in the footwell anymore.
I've replaced so many of them that I can do it by feel.

Last month when my ignition switch started to go out, I read all those past threads too... and decided to let one of my mechanics do this one! $65, yeah it was worth it

Success!!! I actually ended up wih something similar. I went to harbor freight (fright as we call it) and bought a set of small drivers and modified one so its very short.
the hardest part was trying to see so close to my nose and not being able to get the focus through the glasses I wear. It also helps to have and extra joint between your elbow and wrist that I don't have.
Key works just like new again,
