Etching on digital clock
 

My 2000 Boxster's digital clock has some strange etching on the last number that looks like something behind the face is scratching off the black material. Not unlike an "etch-a-sketch" where the lines go all crazy. The last digit is barely visible. Am I going to have to replace the whole clock??
