How do I remove the hood crest?

I am having trouble removing my hood crest. I did a search and see that they are attached with pal nuts that are 8mm. I tried using a 8mm socket and an extension and the nut just spins. I cannot get them out. Can someone please help me figure out how to get these things off?

Thanks in advance for the help.

if they use the thin tin nuts you may need to pull as you remove

Thanks for the quick response. Can you please be a little more specific? The hole under the hood to access the nut is very small. How should I go about pulling the nut from the back while using the 8mm socket?

Thanks again.

its a mechanics touch...instead of pushing the socket you gently pull as you turn. a good pair of needle nose plyers may help...pull as you turn...or gently push on the studs....it sounds like the nuts are striped

Agreed. I tried both of the above suggestions to no avail. Any more advice for a stripped nut? These things are driving my crazy, haha.

plyers....awl...split the nut

Thanks for the help...I'll give the above a shot.

If you can loosen the badge at all you could use a butter knife to pry up on the badge itself as you 'unscrew' the nut. You may have to recruit the spouse or someone else to help you with this if you have trouble doing both unscrewing and prying up on the badge at the same time as it is a bit awkward.

AKL

pull up on the crest (use a Small plastic pry bar) as you turn the nuts. (use a few layers of masking tape on the paint.)

You could also use some fishing monofilament line to go around the crest, then have someone pull on the line to keep pressure on it. Less chance of paint damage using a prying tool.
