Key Fob Question

I have a key fob that came with my car but has never worked for me (as it looks like it went through the clothes washer by the previous owner). I found someone that is going to either repair the board or move the main chip over to a spare fob board.

Once he does the repair, we will want to test it. Seeing as this car hasn’t received a signal from a fob in at least a year, is there anything special I need to do or should it simply work (assuming the fob is repaired)? Thanks ahead of time!

May I ask who repaired the key fob? I have one that needs new micro switches. Thanks.

I believe it should work? Assuming you're using the original key fob transmitter "pill". I haven't heard of keys losing programming.

I found a guy on YT who sells a 3 switch replacement kit.
Aside from it being delicate work, it doesn’t look too difficult (famous last words)
Does anyone with experience in soldering in new switches care to chime in with any tips/tricks? Thanks.

Just a follow up on this - so the crystal on my original fob is broken and the new fob I have is a completely different design. I'm going to see if I can identify the crystal and order a replacement OR find a used key with the same pcb layout to move the chip over to. If nothing else, it should be a fun project.
