1999 Boxster - Upgrades?

Bought a 99 Boxster end of last summer with only 17K miles in mint shape.

Was thinking about a few upgrades this summer.

The radio knobs are sticky, so a new radio was one idea.

Any other cool upgrades that are fairly easy.

I am somewhat mechanicly inclined.

Thanks.

Pedro has a cheap fix for sticky knobs and I can say from personal experience that it works very well. All you need is a ten dollar can of plasti-dip.

The upgrades that I've done to my '99 (so far)are:

polished the headlighits
three spoke steering wheel
sport seats
wind deflector
new canvas top
had the paint polished out (wow!)
de-stickied the radio buttons
de-labelled the visors
de-snorkeled
swapped out ashtray for oddments tray
'03 shifter knob
colored crest wheel caps

coning up:
paint the brake calipers
hook up the heated seats

The radio knobs are $6 to replace. If you want some mod ideas check out my website (sig).

$6?? Really? For $6 I would have just replaced them, but Becker was quoting me something like $25 a knob plus shipping if I recall correctly, which is why I fixed them instead.

Sorry, it looks like they changed the price they used to be $6 each.

EDIT:
It might be worth calling Sunset Porsche, they almost always have the best prices. But I found them for $15 each here:

What is desnorkeling?

Burg Boxster 06-10-2010 05:53 AM

A quick list to keep buys until 4th of July (and approx cost)... ;)

- desnork ($0)
- install aluminum pedals ($100)
- pin 18 hack for convertible while moving
- add spacers ($300)
- techno-torque ($250)
- homelink mod ($25)
- footwell lights ($7)
- change over to US spec cig lighter (so accessories stay in plug) ($15)
- add 2nd cig lighter (off phone power cord) ($5)
- de-badge (or magnetize your badge) ($0/$5)
- paint brake calipers ($40)
- extend key remote distance ($0)
- ipod/aux-in hookup ($25)
- add rear speakers ($200)
- upgrade dash/door speakers ($75/$95)

... and thus the slippery slope begins. Most importantly though, DRIVE your Boxster!

Welcome and enjoy!

PS- do a search on the terms above for all the pertinent details.

how did you extend the distance of the remote?

Pdwight 07-13-2014 02:26 PM

Techno Torque

I'm sorry I need to see some serious data before I plunk down $250 for 5 cents worth of plastic

Before I change my pedals that work fine I would spend money on maintenance like fluid change for everything, gear box, Brake Fluid....everything...then check hoses for cracks and stress
