Messed Wheel and Tire

While washing my car today I noticed someone (that wife) hit a pothole. The front right tire has a huge chunk of rubber torn, and does not hold air. The wheel also has a decent size chip, possibly bent. When I bought the car I bought this insurance that covers wheel and tire damage. Do you think this would be covered for the wheel and tire? They are 18 inch Carrera's. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures I will.

Wow a chip and a bend? That must have been some pot hole! Here in NYC we have the biggest pot holes probably anywhere since the wheel was invented and I've yet to have anything that serious. I would suggest having your alignment checked and the suspension looked over. Better to fix something now before it leads to something else.

about you rinsurance, how much is your deductible?
THe Carreras are about $500-$600 a piece.
So it might be more cost effective not to go through the insurance if the
deductible is similar to the cost of the wheel.
Here in NJ insurance companies are vindictive. Make a claim and see it reappear on your next insurance bill.

If the wheel is still true and its just a superficial chip I would recommend having it repaired professionaly. I have a 2" wide x 1/8" high chip in one my wheels. I plan to fill the chip with JB quick weld, cover with bondo for a smooth finish and paint with Wurth wheel lacquer. Apparently all German alloys use the silver paint used by Wurth. If its not an adequate repair I'll send it out. 1Z also sells the lacquer spray can which is the identical paint code as the Wurth. Of course you'll need to primer and clear coat.

Yes, wheel about $600, tire installed and balanced, about $250.

Not cheap. The tire is gone, the wheel MAY be repairable. Def. try that route if you are at risk for the dough.

Tough one, you have our sympathy.

Hey, one can't get too upset with a wife who finds an occasional pothole. I find them all the time and cringe, hoping I haven't done what she did.

Now if my wife finds a curb and rashes the rims, that's a different story!
