Porsche 997/911 bike rack fit?

Hi will that factory 997/911 porsche bike system fit a boxster's factory hardtop? It looks the same with those groove strippy things that run from front window to back as the 997/911 coupes. And it looks like it would sit the same as the porsche coupe's.

No, the OEM rack for the Boxster called the RTS or Roof Transport System mounts to the windshield frame and body just behind the doors. It can be used with either the hard top or the soft top (up or down).

I wouldn't recommend mounting a rack to the hardtop as it is not designed to carry any load.

There is also a aftermarket rack that is designed to attach to the rear bumper (bumperetes). This is a hitch type mount that can also be used to pull a small trailer.

986 Bike Rack

I built one of these a year back and I'm pretty happy with how its held up. Its a clamp system with a receiver hitch that mounts behind the bumper. The bike rack can slip right on and off and the license plate covers the opening. I'd be happy to make another if somebody is interested. Send me an email: Cbroaddus11@gmail.com

OK, this may sound stupid.

Is there an after market bike rack (i.e. universal fit) that will fit on a Boxster?

The racks that require attachment to the bumper, like the Willwood System or Cbroaddus11's design and the OEM rack are too much trouble and cost more than I am willing to pay.

Just asking.

Thanks

Generic trunk mount racks won't work on a Boxster.

Take a look at this one: Porsche Boxster Bike Rack

Even better, here is someone trying to sell a used one: http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-parts-sale-wanted/43750-bird-automotive-bike-rack.html
