				Can't find Castrol 10w40

in the Chicago area. I've tried all the usual suspects (AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilley/Murray's) as well as WalMart. They all carry Castrol Syntec, but none of them have 10w40. They either have 5wXX or 10w30. NAPA sells it by the quart for $5/qt! No way!
Anybody know of a retailer that actually carries Castrol Syntec 10w40?

I got my 10w40 Castrol syntec at Wal-Mart (Cleveland area). I was lucky in that they had 1 5Q jug and 4 Q. I think I cleaned them out.The filter I picked up at NAPA.

Ran into the exact same situation last month in NY. I ended up finding Mobil 1 10-40 synthetic for high mileage cars at Wallmart, not my first choice but the last two jugs of it. There was no 10-40 syntec in my town to be had.

				Pep Boys

Mike,I ran into this same issue but eventually found 10W-40 Castrol at Pep Boys at Odgen and 75th street (Naperville) near Fox Valley mall. All of the local Walmarts didn't carry the right weight. Trust me I searched all of them!

Yeah. They had the Castrol, just not the right weight. The shelves weren't marked for it either. There is a PepBoys nearby, so I'll try that. Thanks!

I buy it at my local AutoZone in the quart containers...they don't carry the large jugs (haven't checked WalMart). I'll buy it when it's on sale for $4.98 qt and store until I'm ready to change in the fall (once a year or every 3000 miles in my case).

PepBoys had it in quarts only. NO WAY I'm going to pay $7.59/qt. No way!
AutoZone near my house didn't even have it in quarts in 10w40.

My local Walmart doesn't carry it. I emailed them and asked why. They called and said they couldn't even find the SKU for it. So they can't order it.
anyone have the SKU for the 5w-40 or 10w-40 in the 5qt jug.

 thanks

You're a week too late... went out with Wednesday's garbage. If I get to Walmart this weekend, I'll see if i can get a photo of the SKU... love cell phone camera's, don't have to write anything down anymore.

That would be great. Also, the address of the walmart that has it would be good too. Not that I would drive that far, but so I can tell walmart corporate which store is stocking it.

I had to get it in quarts myself from advanced auto parts. They had the $24.99 or $29 (can't remember) for 5 quarts and a free bosch filter special going last month. I got an extra filter for my other cars as I only use napa gold for my Porsche. You could always have them order it in from another store. I don't think they even charge for it. Good call on castro syntec!! Don't forget to check your old filter for metal particles

That's funny you typed that, I made a super power magnetic scavenger for the plastic housing out of some Lowes magnets and a dollar store dog collar.

Talked to a guy at a WalMart Supercenter's tire and lube dept. He said they no longer carry 10w40 in the Castrol Syntec.

I live in Florida and just bought Castrol Syntec 10-40. You should only run this in warm/hot climates. Cold weather I would go with the 0-40.

I use Mobil 1 10 40 for higher mileage cars (79,000). Can purchase at WalMart for less that $25 for a 5 quart jug.

			Brad,
can you get the SKU number from one of the jugs?
I'm trying to get my local Walmart to order it. They think it doesn't exist.

My local Walmart here had Syntec 5-30W so, I used that last week. I don't sit in traffic or drive when it is 100 outside (since it rarely is here) and I feel OK using 5-30W. no 10-anything W was available.
My Mercedes would clatter valves if I used anything except 0-30w or 0-40w. Must be very tight in there.

I guess I didn't read your post carefully enough, I was looking for the Castrol Syntec 10w-40 in the 5qt jug SKU.
Does anybody have that?
