Hesitation and uneven throttle

Hi all,

I hate to go in blind so just a quick note before I take my Boxster to the dealer.

I have a 2000 with approx 45K and lately it is experiencing hesitation through 1st and 2nd gears. It seems I can't keep an even 1500 rpm, when I press the pedal to 1500 rpm and keep my foot steady it will suddenly dip to 800 then rise again to 1500, dip then rise etc.... I'm a newby to the Boxster world and am just now learning about the dreaded MAF, o2 sensors etc. I just hope this issue is a minor one.

Any thoughts on my problem would be appreciated.

Hi ikarma,

Yep, sounds like a MAF sensor problem to me. I've just had a similar thing with my '98 Boxster. The garage owner told me it is just one of the things that goes wrong with Boxsters fairly regularly.
It cost me about AUD$500 for a new sensor and about the same to have it fitted.

Any codes at all? MAF sounds like a culprit. Dirty gas, dirty air cleaner or fuel filter, bad plugs all could be the deal; O2 sensor perhaps.

Let us know what you find.
