RUF front bumper 986
Does anyone have one of these? If so, can you post some pictures of it? I am trying to find more than what is available on their website which is really limited.

I looked into the bumper cover before buying the GT3, at the time they wanted 1700,00. Sorry but that's too expensive for me even though I like the look..

That's a good point, I think they want $1800 for the RUF now and the OEM GT3 can be had for quite a bit less I think. Are you happy with your GT3? |
But the RUF looks like a trick Boxster S and the GT3 looks like, well, a GT3.

I like the way the GT3 looks, my OEM cover had a spider web crack in it, my body guy said they usually don't hold when repaired so I decided to change things up as long as I was taking the entire front end apart to look for any hidden damage. |

Very true, no argument, circumstances have placed me at a point in life where 1,700 for a cover just isn't doable anymore. I'd rather put a new flywheel and performance clutch in..... |
Compared to bumpers like Hamann, Techart, Gemballa ect..; the likes of which all costing 3k plus, the Ruf bumper at $1,800.00 is extremely reasonable. I agree with Quickurt, the Ruf is more of a signature piece. Also, keep in mind that the Ruf bumper was designed to be more aerodynamic and functional than the oem bumper, and not simply cosmetic upgrade as many bumpers are. Take a look at those aggressive air ducts that are designed to create additional down force and cooling.
|
The Ruf bumper comes with the necessary larger ducting to the rads and proper under body panels to seal it all up so the rads still function properly. That coupled with the money you will spend at the body shop getting other non-factory parts to fit properly make it worth the money in my opinion. Then again maybe I am just trying to justify spending the money on the bumper and side skirts I bought for my car.

The GT3 bumper is the other one I was considering besides the RUF one. I have a couple other considerations. First, I already have the Porsche Aero II side skirts which I have seen in combo with the GT3 bumper and it looks good, but haven't seen in combo with the RUF bumper. I think they would also look good with the RUF, but I'm not as certain. Second, I have one of the Special Edition cars that already has a bit of a unique front to it. I'm not 100% sure I want to remove it at all since it's a 550, but it's easily the area of the car I like the looks of the least.
Decisions......decisions.... |
The Aero II sideskirts will look just fine with the Ruf bumper. Here's a shot of my pal Steve's ride, which has those items...

MTS,
Above and beyond just "looks", perhaps the most important thing for you to consider when choosing a body kit, is the overall quality of product. Take it from someone who has researched and inspected virtually every aero part known to mankind for the 986 boxster. Regardless of price or prestige, many of these parts, particularly the fiberglass ones, require a tremendous amount of "tweaking' and fine detail work in order to achieve an outstanding final result. Despite how pleased I was at the conclusion of my Hamann body kit project (and I should be since it won 2 best in show awards) , initially it was a nightmare . Indeed, when I first inspected the parts I was convinced that some kids at a vocational school in Germany had made them ! One would think for the price that I paid and the prestigious name behind them, they would have been "ready to go" right out of the box. That was clearly not the case. Again, the nice thing about the Ruf bumper and side skirts is the quality of the material and the excellent fit. p.s. Here's some photos of my vehicle. |

Your car turned out fantastic from the looks of the pictures, but it sounds like there was a lot of work to get them that way. I recently added some fender flares to my track car to accomodate wider wheels and tires. I went with a lower cost product because it was a track car. When I got them in the finish and fitament were so bad I am pretty sure I could have gone with a much higher cost/quality product and easily made up the difference in body shop labor alone. |
Its amazing how a set of wheels can transform the look of a vehicle.

Yep THey're Victor Eq. Zehns
