having a hard time deciding on a new rear emblem

I want to replace the standard silver boxster s emblem on the rear decklid. I have decided on "roadster" or "986s" . But i haven't decided on flat black or gloss black. The emblems are about $25-$35 in flat black and whatever the price is for the "S" .
Painted it will cost 100 for the roadster and 150 for the 986s.

Has anyone seen gloss black on a car before. I did see a gloss black "boxster s" on one of the suppliers like pelican for $66

hmmmmm

Eric the Plug Guy says that a standard black S is not available. I'm considering gloss black Boxster S.

Eric does emblems to match the body color also. I'm looking for subtle.

I'll check Pelican too.

Run naked.

No badge is best. IMHO.

i got some prices from him. most likely that's where i'll get it plus the bumper plug and keyhole plug.

If you want the gloss black it is part # 98755903701 and its around $60-70

Boxtaboy 02-12-2010 10:12 AM

Neither. :D

I used to run without a badge, but then started to think it looked too bare, and as if the car had body work done to it, but didn't have time to put the factory badge back on. So now, I've got the PORSCHE badge from the Panamera on mine. I love the look.

I like the Roadster emblem

But if you want the Boxster S in black why don't you just buy the silver version from Suncoast and a rattle can and paint it yourself prior to installation?

The Roadster emblem is a nice touch, but you can't have your windows up whilst driving :D

From Wikipedia;

"A roadster, also known as a spyder or spider, is a two-seat car, traditionally without either a roof, side or rear windows"

Also time to get those bumper warts painted!

76turbo...any pics of your car with the script? My car is black with titanium lettering, but I've considered painting the S red. I may just try it with acrylic paint (washable) and see if it works for me. My friend's Cayman S (white) has the red emblem and it is striking, but I'm not sure it works with black.

it was either speedster or roadster. From what i was reading, the car is more roadster than speedster, but not sure.

I did think about spray painting the s to match, but was worried about paint running for some reason.

You would have had to chop the windshield if you put "Speedster" on the car...

Roadster looks good, I'm just giving you a hard time

Anyone have tips on buffing the outline away on the paint underneath if you just want to de-badge?

particlewave 07-12-2012 10:06 AM

Scrub, scrub, scrub...with a soft terry cloth and some wd-40...then scrub some more. Re-apply wax when done. Takes some elbow grease. :)

Thanks! I'm gonna tear mine off when I get home it's pretty beat up

Overdrive 07-12-2012 12:28 PM

I hope you're only being figurative when you talk of tearing off your emblem. It'll be stuck on there pretty good, for one thing. You also don't want to have chunks of the tape stuck to the trunk lid if you do manage to pry it off, and worse still you don't want to end up warping the stupidly thin trunk lid from pulling at it.

Dental floss (and a good long time sitting out in the sun/blast with a hairdryer) works wonderfully and leaves you with a lot less to clean up afterward.

Bought mine with this on it.
