fryed my radio! grrr...what now Double DIN AVIC?
warning. do not 'refresh' your vents with the Wurth AC cleaner spray.
the spray dripped down the center console and onto the radio and according to the guy at Best Buy and two other sound shops, its kaput. DEAD. Neither will the DSP equalizer thing work. I'm not sure if it's also fried or just not getting power because the head is history. ARGGHHH... Anyhoo...has anyone upgraded the headunit and still been able to make use of the DSP equalizer? The audio guys say this is not possible. any suggestions on an upgRADE? |
I don't see how they'd be compatible, given the DSP is part of the proprietary factory system. Why would you want to use it anyway?
I thought you had gutted your system and gone all aftermarket? Sorry to hear about your experience, I've considered using that stuff on my BMW, but might have to pass on the idea after hearing this. |
On the outside chance your HU isn't dead, did you check the fuse in the back of it?
|
hmm...I couldn't find one of the hooks to slide out the HU. I assumed the sound shop had their own set, I think these are used on other cars, to check. Now come to think of it they didn't say explicitly that they checked that fuse when they said the fuses were fine. Does the HU use the standard colored fuses found in the fuse panel?
As to the DSP, I must be the only person in the world that found the HI-Fi package to be great for a roadster. I've only thought about upgrading so to avoid using the aux for XM and Ipod. |
Yep, it uses the same kinda fuse that you find in the fuse panel. I would at least pull your unit out to check that before throwing it out, or have Becker in NJ refurbish it for you so that you can reuse it with that DSP unit.

The removal keys I got from Becker for cheap.
My Box is in storage right now, but my recollection of the normal fuses is that they are not quite the same as the one in the back of the CDR-220. Same idea, but slightly different IIRC (BTW, my HU is out right now because I had to replace the fuse in it after being a total moron and connecting the battery up in reverse  ) |

I have thrown out my CDR a long time ago but still have the removal keys. You can have mine |
I'd like those keys too if thats possible. I want to do the speed/radio volume mod. You think I could get them when you're done (whoever has them)?

This is what I'm talking about:
http://boxsters.addr.com/hacks/volume_control.htm I called the number listed but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. |

I don't think mine works that well either. Does it matter if the top is down?
|
Doesn't matter if the top is up or down. Do you have it set closer to 1 or 7? Try it at 7.
