2003? comes with the glass rear window.
Don't be afraid to walk away from the deal. As you pointed out with the 2005 out on the road there will be more used Boxsters to choose from. I saw mine on Ebay, it didn't sell at the reserve(by les than $1K) so I persuaded them to relist it for our agreed price with a 'buy it now'. I actually closed the auction in the dealer's show room on his laptop. with only 10,000 miles it sounds like a good find. Be a little agressive and contact the seller with your best offer and try to be persistent. Maybe he needs the dough. You need to list more of the options to determine whether you are getting the most bang for the buck. I wish mine had come with factory sideskirts like yours. THat's at least $1K with labor, it also didn't come with Litronic Headlights which is another $1K at least. 18" Carrera 5 spokes is anohter upgrade which are costing me $1500 barely used. You see it all adds up. |
It is easy enough to find out. Find one or two that you really want to buy and make the seller a firm offer at trade value. They may or may not sell. If they do, you have your answer.
While KBB values are useful, they are guides. The real question is, what price can you get on the car that you want. Start low and move up to where you are comfy! Quote:

It doesn't matter if there's a glut of cars. There's a lot of beat down Boxsters (from lease returns, etc). When I sold my M3, I got a 20% premium over other M3's. It was because my car was in excellent condition with all records intact. Some people tried to lowball me, only to come back to my asking price a week later...only to find out the car had been sold.
My point is, if you find a really excellent condition car with the options you want, don't let a few thousand stand in your way by trying to get a "great deal". By no means overpay, but offer what is fair and be on your way enjoying the car. Life is too short to worry about $1K on a $40K car. - |
yes you are right about $1K LUX,
I was verylucky the highest bidder didn't dig a little deeper. My Boxster met all of my basic requirements, in retrospect I would have been waiting a long time to find another immaculate 10K miles or less, S model with a manual transmission in my long lusted after Boxster red interior sold localy here in NJ (NJ requieres powertrain 6 month warranty on dealer sold used cars). When you find the one you really want...grab it before someone else makes a better offer you will have to match or surpass. But the key is make sure it fits nearly all of your requirements. I guess this involves being familiar with the Boxster. I didn't think an excellent sound system was possible in a drop top and thus it wasn't on my list. Turns out the original owner sprang for the best audio package available and am I glad he did. The sound with top down (thanks to wind deflectors) is the BEST I've heard for a car right out of the box. |

Just to give you an idea, I just bought an '03 S model for $38,500. 8,500 miles, 18" Carrera wheels, litronics, PSM, heated seats, DSP Stereo, cruise, and colored caps.
|
wow that's a nice price for a basically brand new car.
Who/where did you buy it? |
I found it on autotrader.com
He was asking $39,000. |
That's allot of car you got for less than 40K.
I considered waiting until the new year when the 987 would come out and presumably prices of older cars would come down but the mileage on my Boxster convinced me to get on it. That glass rear window and Carrera wheels really sets it apart. Is it tiptronic? |
No it's a 6-speed.
I also considered an '05, but decided that I could get this, and with a little bit of work have it be just as fast, for a whole lot less money. I only looked at '03's and '04's because I wanted the glass rear window and the additional HP. I had a 2000 Boxster a few years ago, but thought it was a little too under-powered. So I sold it and bought a 2000 911, but it wasn't as much fun to drive. Hopefully the "S" will be the best of both worlds. |
Good luck.
BTW-the 03 S is plenty fast enough as it is! |
I thought the 03-04 S is only 10 horses quicker than earlier S?
I guess I could spend $1000 for the difference...or maybe not. |
After having an earlier Boxster, it was as much about having a glass rear window as anything. No more worries about creases or scaping.

does that include the lower CD for the more aerodynamic glass rear window? :)
