Experience of 996 rims on 986 S ?
Hi All,
I intend to upgrade the standard 17 " alloys on my 2003 Boxster S ( Facelift ) to 18" 5 spoke Carrera Classic wheels. The standard upgrade boxster fitment is 18 x 7.5J ET50 front and 18 x 9J ET52 rear. A good set of these wheels is proving hard to source and I would also like to achieve a sligtly wider stance. I am considering a set of 996 wheels 8J ET 50 and 10J ET65. I am told that these will work with a set of 18mm spacers on the rear. I also intend to fit the standard tyre sizes namely 225/40/18 and 265/35/18. These tyres are apparently within the range for the wider rims. ( with the risk that the rear may stand slightly proud and be prone to kerb damage ). I am trying to establish reliable information based on first hand experience whether this combination works without detrimental effect on ride/ handling/ steering etc. Some suggestions that the car will tramline badly and the front end will lose its crispness. Any informed advice will be appreciated. |
Certain that it is, spacers have a practical application. However, choosing a wheel with such high offset as +65, in the long run may prove to be a bad decision. I can assure you, if you ever decide to go the route of adjustable coilovers, a wheel of those dimensions will most certainly cause problems with regard to clearance.
