Thoughts on doing a GT3RS paint scheme on my 03 Boxster S....

I really like the look of the GT3 RS paint scheme. Obviously they look perfectly in place on the GT3 or GT3 RS. I am wondering how this scheme would look on a Boxster. I would love to add either the green accents like this car below or Riviera Blue. I was thinking I would paint the wheels to match, and get the script along the side and possibly the mirrors painted. This will be a track/DE car but also driven on the street on a regular basis. Yay or Nay?

GT3 RS idea....

Yikes!!! I'm not a fan of that scheme on a GT3 or Boxster, but the GT3 can get away with it because it's way out race car sporty. It's kind of like trying to translate a super bold paint scheme on a rice rocket sport bike (it works) to something a little more conservative, like a "sporty" BMW bike (doesn't work). I'm not out in my car trying to attract attention, maybe your objective is different.

Your car looks great now, but if you're going to go with the green wheels and stripe along the side, might as well go all out with a GT3 front facia, aero skirts along the sides and back, and a huge faux carbon fiber fixed wing on the back.

No need to wonder what it will look like. Just saw this in the classifieds:

Photoshop it electric green.

I agree with gschotland. Your car look great as it is, the only thing I would change would be the amber side markers. However, it is your car and you have to drive it so do what you want to it.

Check out this quick and dirty photoshop job. I don't think it would look any better in black.

I just photo-shopped your car too, check it out, I think it looks best on black if you are to do it.

Not sure on the lettering style so just did a font I liked.

Sux imo......

Lobo1186 01-22-2010 10:05 PM

it would be original but i would be expecting GT3 like power to come from a car with its paint scheme.

The beach boys once dedicated a tune to this concept...

LMFAO - I actually listened to half of that. :D

Sublety is the key with a black car, IMO.
Why would you want to bling up your gorgeous Boxster like that?
Some sort of PDE treatment would be better, but hey, that's just me and it's your car.
I'll do the same as my old engine builder, though.
We were at Road Atlanta and it was an hour before our main race time and raining like a cow pee'in on a flat rock. I asked him if he minded if we just packed up and went home. He said, "No, it's your call. I'll call you pussy the rest of your life, but it's up to you."
:D

It's your car so do as you wish, but if I see you out driving something similar to what's shown below I'll probably make fun of it. Sorry. :)

Beach Boys got me thinking....

Sorry, just having fun lol

Lobo1186 01-23-2010 07:35 AM

lol thats the problem is that all show and no go can suck for cars and already boxsters get that kind of rep being a porsche but being the slowest one.

Quickurt 01-23-2010 07:56 AM

I really had to think about the gold wheel treatment with my black on sand beige, but in the end, I wanted "Get the hell out of my way" not "look at me."

Think about a black cherry stripe at the natural highlight going from behind the headlight to the taillight on the upper side of the car. The black cherry is a flip flop style paint that comes and goes with the direction of lighting. Now it's here.........now it's not.

You already know what my thoughts are on the green graphics ," Ringling Brothers" ! As far as the gold wheels are concerned, try something like a graphite or gunmetal . Black can be a challenging color when it comes to finding a good contrast. Even different "values" of black often get lost within the main color field.

Valor 01-23-2010 05:14 PM

Don't do it IMO, you could try just the rims and black em out in powder coat or go for gunmetal paint if you are itching for a diff look.

At first glance I failed to notice the gold dolphin. Now that I have seen it, I am about ready to throw up on my shoes. You have got to be kidding ! :barf:

I think your black 986 looks fantastic. Very classy. While I like the headlamps better on the 987, I think the 986 looks better in black because the rear vents are body colored. I think the orange side markers look fine too.

You have a great looking car. Let it be.

Hold that spew! It's a photoshopped piss take on a pimped out Beach Boys theme. The car is safe lol

Quickurt 01-25-2010 04:18 PM

Crap!!! I just noticed the surfboard on the roof, with a single fin in the front and double fins in the rear. I bet that'd be a hell of a ride!!!
