bose sound system, 2003 boxster
 

My base doesn't seem to strong. The rear speaker between the seats has some air movement but no sound. Is this working?

If air's moving, the mid-mounted sub is working. The Bose system (or the "Blows" system, as I've seen it referred to) is really not that great. I assume you also have the door-mounted subs?

I have taken the rear speaker out for a week or two a few times, and the bass response doesn't change dramatically. It does contribute, but not to the extent you'd imagine it would, given its presence in the cabin.

So, the good news is that yes, it's probably working... the bad news is you own the same crappy stereo I own.

Isn't the impedence different for Bose than other speakers? IE we can't just remove / replace the Bose speakers with whatever your fav replacement is?

If you still have questions about the operation of the rear speakers you know you can fade the sound totally to the rear and check the operation/sound. Remember, the rear shelf speaker is a base/sub module. The sounds from it are in those frequences, don't expect mids or highs. Once you find that it is working (if not, check the connection on the side of the box behind the passenger seat) play with the fader until it's thumping is to your satisfaction, and enjoy. :dance:
