type 1 vw in boxster?

ok, I know but ignoring the gross loss of HP.... it looks like it may be possible to fit a flat 4 air cooled vw motor into a boxster. you would loose some weight with the smaller motor and deleting of radiators etc. would be some air ducting to be done.
a replica speedster is now approaching $25,000. a boxster with a blown motor is a lot less than that and the air cooled stuff is very inexpensive. would still be a fun ride. any thoughts from those of you who might know?
I bought my Boxster 5 months ago and have put 8,000 miles on it to reach 60,000.
seems like the more I drive it the better it does. need to do the 60,000 service now.

You're mistaking cheap engine parts for being a cheap conversion.
Putting in a Type1 would cost far more than just replacing with a used Boxster engine, and you would end up with a bastard car worth less than it was as a roller with a blown engine. It would be illegal in most states, and has half of the performance of a VW bug (same engine, twice the vehicle weight).

You'd be far better off selling off the Boxster roller and just buying a VW bug.

LOL.... come on a Boxster with a type 1 VW engine? Seriously? You realize a stock 1600cc engine makes about 60 hp right? A car like you're suggesting would make a moped with a weedwacker engine seem quick.

If you want cheap repairs with an engine NEW cheaper than a boxster motor USED wait to see if Brad Roberts can finish his boxster LS1 V8 conversion. Not only that you will have some serious power and the motor weighs only slightly more than the M96.

as stated previously the type 1 would not be cheap the conversion would be pricey.

after that sure it would be cheaper to repair but at what cost? drivability? fun? pleasure?

the word Conversion is synonmous with $$ (generally)

If I were to put a non-Porsche engine in a Boxster, it would be a Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
2.5L flat 4 Turbo with 305 HP and a bit lighter.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

you could always go all electric (dc motor and tons of batteries) and you would be able to beat that vw motor in a drag race.

I'm with Pedro on the Sube motor...could this be what Porsche actually has in store for the future (flat four turbo-charged)?

Putting a GM motor in a Boxster is as bad as putting one in a 911...kind of like putting a pig's heart in a human (it works but doesn't belong)!

if porsche did it right in the first place we could just keep whats in there... :D

(if by pig you meant wild boar... then yes I guess it could be something similar to that)
