Neat pics and story of a 3.4L engine swap

This guy had a 2.5L boxster and took it to a shop for an engine swap. Looks like a real professional job. It's definately the thing to do if you want the fastest boxster on the block or surprise the occasional 996/corvette owner. A pic of a time slip is included as well. I wish my S could do 12.8's.

Did he say what this whole process cost?

BTW- I am in the process of looking to do Corvette LT1 engine into a 944. I would like to meet up with this guy at a drag strip. Could prove interesting, no?

Unfortunately, I don't think he did. Not cheap I'm sure. I've heard of people dropping in LT1's into 944's. Considering how cheaply you can get major hp out of those motors, I'm sure you'll have a real tire roasting beast on your hands.

One day I'd like to do this engine swap with my 2.5 as well. Any idea what FVD would charge for this? I heard something like $18k.

Yes, adding a few goodies onto the LT1 gets you near or over 400HP. Not bad in a light car like the 944.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

12.8 with a 1.9 60' is pretty damn good. I guess this gives us a preview of the Cayman's performance. :dance:

Why would you swap in an LT1? Wouldn't an LS1 be better? Can you imagine a Boxster with an LS1/LS6? Modern day Cobra.

Ls1's probably cost considerably more so maybe he wants to keep the costs down?

Well after doing more research, the LS1 is actually a better way to go. The cost diff on a used engine is about $1200 more but the LS1 is 120 LBs lighter.

This is the way to go for my project.

LS1 is stock 350 HP/350 Torque.

The sky is the limit, no?

The sky is the limit with the LS1 (or so it seems). It really is a world class motor. I notice that the LS2 crate motors are available also. New for ~$6K. Now that's cheap!

I'll bet it's more compact and lighter than the motor out of the 944. Come to think of it, a 944 coupled to an LS1 motor would be a Corvette killer.

The LS1 motor weights within 20 LBs of the 4 banger I believe. With a supercharger, the LSI makes 450HP with no internal mods at all. If you go with headers, a cam etc, you are at 500HP.

Some guy on the Renegade site is running 4 flat zero to 60 with a stock LS1 motor in his 944.

Hmmmm, 500 HP in a 944. Now would any 911 Turbo like to have a go?

Well, this WILL be a fun project.

BTW- used LS1 motors are about 3 grand right now.

And yes, the LS2 motor is also available from GM!
