does this sound like the ignition switch?

I have a family of gremlins living in my car as of late. Starting a week ago, the rear truck would open as I am driving down the road, then it stopped. then the cig lighter would not work correctly, still has power, but will not power accessories like radar and phone charger. Now this morning, everytime I would turn on the drivers seat heater, the front truck would open.

I have been noticing that my ignition switch is a bit loose, and is not doing the "clunk" when removing the key.

I have had it replaced soon after i bought the car, because you could remove the key and the car would not turn off until it ran out of gas.

Now the next question, do i replace the "electrical switch" or the whole stalk? do I have old or new version? the replacement of the original 2002 switch was done around 2004ish

Mine started doing that just last night! The rear trunk popped open several times on a bumpy road. Is your trunk gremlin only on bumps or even with smooth pavement?

Well the roads out here in central texas are more bumpy than flat, but to answer your question,....yes it happens when I hit a bump.

I thought that because the ignition switch seems loose and has more play in it I assumed that the bumping was causing the switch connections to act up.

I just returned from lunch and the rear trunk popped open again. I guess I caught the trunk gremlin from the someone at the porsche club 2 weeks ago.

i had a customer who had the same problem with a VW Passat. after about 7 visits and not finding anything wrong with the car, we finally figured out it was him. he was developing Parkinsons disease and playing with the key fob, hitting the trunk switch, and not even knowing it.

maybe it's a tumor?

[schwartzenegger]it's not a tumah![/schwartzenegger]
