Oil change intrevels?

I have a 2004 boxster, and it is driven about 4,000 miles a year. I am going to change the oil myself. Do you think every 5,000 miles is appropriate? Thanks!

I've heard 3-5K for most cars. I'm in the market for a 2005 and I can't believe Porsche recommends 20K miles between changes. What's that about?

I recommend to my customers that they change the oil/filter every 7500 miles or one year, whichever comes first. Mobil 1 or other quality synthetic, of course.

Porsche recommends a change every 15K through model year 2004. I dont know about the 05s. Given the number of new engines I see going into Porsches at my local dealer, I would NOT hold to the 15K interval.

Best of luck!

Porsche says 20k for the 05's. No way I'd go that long w/o an oil change, but it's what they recommend...

Thank you, but is time a factor in oil changes or just mileage?

Yes, oil degrades over time with or without usage.

With a good synthetic, a year is about right.

:)

I agree, even though the newer synthetics are recommended for longer intervals, I still change mine every 5,000 to 7,500 depending on how many months it has been. I would not go longer than a year myself, even if I only had 5,000 miles on it. Just a matter of prefference and caution on my part.

I drive about 5k a year and change my oil yearly. It's just a good idea to keep fresh oil in the engine imo. It's alot easier (and cheaper) to change the oil than change an engine.
