How to check oil in Diffential

I have a 2000 Boxster S with a small leak around my right output axle at the case, maybe. I want to check and add fluid and I assume it is going to be under the car. Just did the brakes when I saw the oil residue next to the inner boot. So, I what do I look for. JB :ah:

PS: Has anyone tackled this repair before so I know what to expect.

Gear box and diff share the same oil, so check the gear box level.

Manual or TipS?

The TipS does NOT share it's fluid with the diff/final drive, nor does it have a drain plug, though it has a fill. Pull the cover to drain - replace cover w/ new gasket and fill with gear lube, not ATF.
