Double-DIN stereo with GPS Nav?

But anybody know of a good double-din stereo that has a good GPS Nav system?

More units seem to have the LCD screen come out and flip out but I'm not as keen on those because I think this type of screen would interfere with the center vents' airflow, so I'm thinking of double-DIN and a more OEM look.

I'm going to garage the Boxster for this winter again soon, maybe I should ask this early next year as some manufacturers might release an updated model for Christmas(??)

I've been considering the Pioneer Avic D-3. Search here and on Renntech and you will find pictures of some nice installations.

I put in an AVIC-D3 back in April. Did the entire install myself. Went very smoothly and the faceplate I made looks factory.

I put in the BT adapter, iPod cable, and reverse camera as well.

I am considering this same unit.
I have a Pioneer unit now and have trouble seeing it with the top down. Can this display be seen easily with the top down??

lol, I've posted pictures a dozen times on this site, but here you go.

The face plate in the pics was my first attempt. I have since removed it and put in one with stretched black vinyl. It looks completely factory and have received a lot of compliments. I need to get pics of the new faceplate but here you go:

Oh, the screen is still easy to see with the top down, but when I wear polarized Oakleys with the top down it can be a bit tough to see. A tilt of the head fixes that. This thing also improves the sound of the radio a lot.

I bought everything from Crutchfield and they loaded me up with all the adapters I needed, they even sent the stereo keys.

I even did a write-up in the DIY section on the forums. I will admit that pictures would be helpful during the install.

Like Chills, I got my from Crutchfield and did the install myself. I like the Strada, just wish it had 3-D maps. I have the iPod interface and Sirius hooked up. One down point on the Strada is that in order to hook up more than one device, you need an expansion pack. I no longer have any room behind the GPS unit with all the wires and boxes.
The hardest part of the install was making the faceplate. The color of the factory GPS plate was very shinny, just like the system, so I sprayed the plate with flat Krylon black and it matched the rest of the interior very nicely. I then built the top of the faceplate using the orignal A/C plate. I cut the top and bottom pieces off and low and behold a perfect fit for above the GPS unit. I used some plastic bondo to hold the cut pieces together, sanded and painted. The new plate is held in place b/t the vents and GPS unit because it is a tight squeeze.

i installed a AVIC-D3 as well, its not hard at all to install and looks great, i would def. recommend it

I went to an electronic store yesterday and inquired about a mounting kit for my 01 boxster and they told me that they don't have them and none of their suppliers sell them. Where did you get the mounting kit? Or did you make it yourself?

he's making a custom kit for 986/996 with EVERYTHING you need included to install an AVIC
I think his handle is treuillonaire or something like this

costs around $150 and is worth every penny
