Looking for hardtop pictures
 

I've got a pre-'05 hardtop. I bought it last year and took it apart for painting. When I re-assembled it, I bought all of the anti-squeak pads/weatherstrip. I put them all on except for big foam pads that go around the spin locks. The pictures in the Service Bulleting are a big vague.

If anybody has these on their hardtop and hasn't put it on the car yet, could you please take a picture or two to show how and where they are installed? I'd like to put them on before it gets cold.

Is that foam supposed to go in the hardtop or between the car and the hardtop?

I have had my hardtop on for two years now, and have read a lot about 986 hardtops, and I have never heard of anyone placing foam between the hardtop and the car. It seems unnecessary to begin with, and is certainly not OEM as far as I am aware.

I agree with Rick3000. I do not have a part like that either. I can only guess that maybe it crams into the space around the spinlocks to provide some noise insulation.

The driver's side would have to fit around the defroster connector.

There is a hard plastic part on the top near the rear "corner." Not sure what - if anything - might be under that as I've not seen a top disassembled.

That's exactly where it goes. It goes on the top, on the inside. It is to cut down on wind noise in that area. Thanks for checking though.
