How tough is a Boxster S gearbox

I was looking over the specs. on my newly purchased 02 Roock 340. They beefed up all the important stuff except the gearbox . can the boxster gearbox handle the added torque of the 3.6 engine long term.

Give Jake Raby a call at Flat6innovations (see above sponsor).
If he doesn't know, no one will.

Also, there is a You tube video floating around that shows how to check for trans bearing wear -- basically you drain the trans fluid and stick a little finger inside the hole and feel for grease and shavings on the magnet near the drain hole. I'm just passing on second hand info -- but you might also want to check with "Tholyoak" in Kansas who has put several of these motor swaps in older Boxsters.

FWIW, etc...

Take care,

It should be up to the task no problem. The S trans is a carry over item from the 996.

My 3.6 is using the original stock 1998 2.5 5 speed. Between Tholyoak and I it has over 30K since the conversion, no issues so far.

The Boxster S 6 speed is the same base tranny thats used in the 911. The internals of these units are robust, only having pinion bearing failures due to the bearing design.

I have yet to see one break from power additions..

that is really good news. even with the sloppy 5 speed

any issues or quirks with the 3.6 conversion

With my 3.6L the only thing that changed is i cant downshift into 2nd now. I dont think its motor mounts or shift cables bc my shop checked those. I have solid motor mounts not oil based. Any ideas Jake, anyone?

I've had an off and on issue with the eGas other than that, it's been great.
