Boxster Rear Window Care???
 

My rear vinyl window insert has cloudy, scratch marks in it when I purchased it last month. Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing this minor irritation?

Porsche makes a white paste that is like a polishing compound that can clean up a number of scratches in the plastic window. I used it when I first got my 2000 boxster, worked pretty OK, also got rid of a fair amount of the glazing on the window.

Try several applications of Plexus. Hand buff with a microfiber towel. This makes mine look clear. Make sure you do inside and out.

The plastic window was just never a great idea. I don't mind mine, but sometimes wish it were glass.

Mine was really bad when I bought my car. I could hardly see out. I used Mothers brand "Power Plastic" liquid and a Mothers foam ball that hooks on to a drill. It worked really well.

Mine looked like heck when I bought it, now looks like new. They sell a kit including all 3. I used a simple set of rags to apply the stuff and wipe it off. When applying and it is "wet", you are essentially sandpapering the film off the plastic with #3, buffing the big scratches with #2 and polishing with #1. Do the inside with only 2 and 3.

Repeat with #1 as needed.

I first did this 4+ years ago.

... plastic window or rear windscreen, the products and procedure could be the same.
I've use the meguiars plastic cleaner and plastic polish to restore and Plexus to maintain.

I'm talking about the rear windscreen which inserts between the two roll bars behind the seats. Where could you purchase Plexus? Do they sell it it Canada? Thanks!

Keep in mind that Plexus only keeps the plastic nice and shiny once clear. If you have cloudiness and scratches, you need to first use a plastic cleaner that is an abrasive, to buff out the scratches, and then you can use the Plexus to keep it in good shape. plexus is not an abrasive...it is a polish.

Most motorcycle shops sell it, as do marine suppliers and the occasional auto supply store. I'd look for it in that order. I can't image why they would not be available in Canada, eh?!! :)

Thanks Kabel and others...just bought some Mequires and also a product the store recommended called Quixx(made in Germany). Will try both and get back with results!

I've heard this stuff is good for restoring cloudy/yellow plastic back to clear. It's a rubbing compund not just a polish.

The label for "Flitz" says "metal, plastic, fiberglass cleaner" and "gives back (restores) shine (gloss) to paint".

Has anyone had good results with it?

Tried the Meguiar's PlastX. It claims to remove fine scratches, cloudiness and stubborn oxidation from plastic headlights, boat windows, hard plexiglass surfaces, etc. Didn't do much at all. The Quixx repair system for acrylic glass and plexiglas (from Germany) worked better. Had to use the 1600 grit wet sandpaper supplied on some tough scratches, which I think the previous owner caused by storing things on top of the 'window' in the trunk. Still isn't great but better. I might end up looking for a used replacement in good shape. Nothing on eBay...anyone selling one????

Novus is the best for ANY plex or plastic......use #1, #2 and #3. Used by sign professionals, etc. Have used it for years on cars.....Boxster and others........
