Moving the Heater controls

My heater controls on my 2000 S are above the stereo. I had the bose DSP stereo thing, but removed all but the button control panel that it located just above the bat wing (below the pocket). I bought an alpine flip-up DVD player and when open it blocks the heater controls. I have seen some boxsters have cup holders located above the stereo and the heater control down below the pocket. I would like to do this. does anyone know:

1. if this is a job that a novice tech (i.e. me) could take on himself and...

2. know where I could buy the cup holder facia that will replace the area above the stereo?

Thanks

Search on cupholderectomy or cup holders or cupholders on renntech as it has been covered several times.

There is a retrofit kit for the style cupholders that started in 2001. The are the ones under the vents that pop straight out.

If you are keeping the DSP control just above the bat wing then you have a problem. That is where the a/c display goes if you install the pop-out style cupholders.

no i dont need the DSP control anymore since installing the alpine. So that is where I would like to put the heater controls. Is that possible to do on a 2000? I will now go and read the renntech posts -- thanks tool pants.

I got the part number and the price for the cup holders and asked them about a retrofit kit for 2000 and below boxsters and the guys at my porsche dealer never heard of a retrofit kit. Will I need this? And I saw in that thread that there is a 4 page document from Porsche on how to install it -- do you know where I could find that?

Thanks for your help....
