Removal of softop for 'permanent' hardtop?
 

I intend to have my hardtop on permanently. While some may argue that defeats the fact of owning a Boxster, let's leave that argument aside for this thread :) The local weather and traffic density just doesn't permit it.

Anyway, I figured if the soft top is going to be permanently folded, would it be better to just remove it entirely? I don't want permanent crease line to form on the canvas and plastic itself and crack over time.

How difficult would it be to remove the soft top then?

If you remove it, how will you store it so that it is not folded in some way?

Removal of the soft top? Well, you'll have to take off the whole frame, and from my experiences changing my soft top (partially successfully), this will be a pain in the butt.

DOn't do it unless you have someone around that has done it before! The porsche tops are notorious for being finicky, and you might inadvertantly destroy soemthing.

I understand what you're saying about the plastic bending and creasing.

I have never removed one. But how to do it was explained to me at a tech session a few years ago because it was removed for the session.

Pop off the red plastic joints on each side. Then remove the 3 bolts on each side. Guys that have a dedicated track car do this. They also remove the top motor and transmission, due to the weight. Then they put on a gutted hard top or if they have the money a carbon fiber one.

That sounds simple enough :) But did you actually get to see them do it. I wonder if it's just that....

The top was removed before I got to the tech session. Guy on the UK board took it off himself so he could have a new window put in.

This is another car at my dealer with the top off.
