Well that is sorta the way I felt when I took off the bumperettes and started drilling holes in the aluminium frame of the car, then cut squares out of the inside of the bumperettes. That is the hardest part of installing a Willwood bike rack I just got for the boxster.

I have been thinking about a bike rack for the car for a while. Cyndy is out of town with the Forester that we normally use to haul bikes and the Seagull Century is next weekend, that's all the excuse I needed. Its about a 5 hour drive to the Century next weekend, so it will be a good test of the rack. BTW, there should be just under seven thousand riders at the Seagull this year!

Others have posted about this rack system ([URL=http://www.willwoodsystem.com/products.htm]) and I have found it one of the easiest to stick on the vehicle and one of the easiest to put bikes on. Here are some pics:

Aagh! The horror!

Actually, it looks good - but the idea of a receiver on a Boxster is just... so... wrong!

I saw a guy at the San Diego PCA autocross last month - driving a newer 911 if I remember correctly - with a 2" receiver he was using to pull a small trailer with his track wheels. In his defense, I _think_ the license plate covers the hole when not in use.

It seems so wrong, yet so utilitarian. Does not compute. Must leave thread. :D

Leave the nice young man alone. If his interest lies in bike racing and needs a way to get his bike there in style , so be it. I, myself, am going to put a hitch on to tow a tear drop trailer that my wife and I are building. We go to a fair amount of races and the best times are at the track at night, but we like to deal with the rally's and drives. We don't want to take two vehicles so it is what makes sense. Everyone has their own needs to fill. Ed

Gotta chuckle at the ribbing your getting. The obama sticker comment borders on harassment though. :D I have a 1 1/4" hitch on my GTO to haul my road bike around, it works out great with the Hollywood rack that I use. Top down traveling on the way to and from cycling events is something I do miss. Nice job.

Being able to enjoy the 986 and your bikes at the same time should be great fun.

I transport kayaks and bikes on my BMW, though it's a more conventional roof rack setup... but the fun factor is similar.
My 987 is good for hauling folding kayaks.

My favorite multi-tasking is to carry homebuilt folding kayaks and on occassion bikes on my motorcycles.

Who says you can't take it with you.... :cheers:

Actually I think it's tastefully done and doesn't look gawdy at all. I am an avid biker myself, as I have a jamis coda sport. I know the difficulty of getting your bike to a good trail or path.

As for the Bumper sticker, I wasn't trying to bring politics into the discussion, just making a comparison. But I will refrain from any future references to obama, politics, religion, demise of our country or coolaid drinking. :cool:

now if you ever paint the bumperettes you'll need to paint the hitch receivers too!

Looks great to me. I also have a Willwood rack and thoroughly enjoy it.

Werks, nice bikes! The ST is a great bike but I really love the FJR! I had a FJ1200 back in the nineties. Did you consider the clutchless model? It looks as if it isn't available for 2010.

Thanks. I never considered clutchless for the FJR. I had an 89 FJ-1200... fun bike. My favorite touring bike
was a 91 Honda ST-1100 that I rode for over 17 years and 80,000mi. The FJR was a good bike also.

The Triumph ST-1050 simply handles better than any sport tourer I've owned. I now have it and an Aprilia SL-1000R.

I agree... you were slightly off on one thing... I either use color matching duct tape or clear packing tape. :cool: :cheers:
