Windshield wipers get stuck midway

When i use my windshield wipers, I notice sometimes they actually get stuck on the way up about halfway so it's blocking my view. What is the cause of this and can it be fixed easily and cheaply? 2000 Boxster S

One of my wipers was misbehaving and when I took the wiper assembly off of the metal post, the inside of the aluminium housing was stripped out. I got a dremel tool and put teeth back into the female part of the wiper assembly, snugged it up and it seems to be working fine. First thing is to check to make sure the wiper assembly is tightly attached to the post.

I don't think thats whats happening to me. Both of my wipers freeze up in sync. And then will continue after a few seconds. Or I can shut off and turn back on manually to get it going again.

bump...Anyone got any ideas? Suppose I need to replace all the possible bad parts. What would they be and how much?

That's definitely not normal. Do you think it's electrical or mechanical? Are there any strange clinking or snapping noises associated with the pause? Do you have any other electrical problems with the car? The ignition switch has been known to cause weird, semmingly unrelated electrical problems.

Hey, its a long shot, but I just replaced my ignition switch, pretty easy DIY. Word on the street is that the ignition switch can be responsible for all sorts of electrical problems. It might be worth a try,

Bump... Never got this fixed since my top two positions worked fine (it was just the down position where you use the knob to adjust). Today I noticed that now the top positions create a clicking noise from what seems to be behind the cluster. I cant tell if its electrical or mechanical but I think its related to the previous problem I was having. I even took it to a dealership at some point and they told me what it needed. I think it was a type of relay. I'll try to find out tomorrow but just wanted to post to see if anybody can relate to this issue. Also, to my knowledge, I have no other electrical problems with the vehicle so replacing my ignition switch seems unnecessary.

Bump...I had the dealership look at it and they said it needed a combo/wiper switch (whatever is connected to the stalk) and also a new relay switch because they said it sometimes will make a clicking noise. I'm not sure if it really needs both of these things or if they are trying to sell me more parts than I need just to be sure that it will be fixed. Also, I wasn't aware that relay switches click, however I do hear a clicking noise from the instrument cluster area which I presume is something attached to the wipers and not the relay, since the relay is down below (although maybe my hearing is off and it is indeed down below).

Had a similar issue with another make of car, first I replaced the switch and that did not solve the problem, ended up replacing the wiper motor and that solved the issue.
