Emergency Brake Light on when pressure is put on the handle

I usually rest my wrist/forearm on the ebrake handle while holding the shifter. hard to explain. but the point is when the ebrake is not pulled up and i put pressure on it while its down the brake light comes on and then off after pressure is released. Any ideas why this is happening?
