I wore down a pair of 265/35-18 Continential ContiSportContact 3 tires in less than 12K. Never spun tires or raced. Pretty gentle use actually.......less agressive than the tires are made for.

Tread wear rating is 280. TireRack calls these "excellent" treadwear. I don't agree! But I just ordered a replacement pair of same for $639, delivered. The fronts are practicly new so I really can't switch brands this time around.

The tires are evenly worn and the car doesn't indicate suspension problems when driving it. Can't complain about the performance of these tires. Great grip in all warm conditions. Only con is significant flat spots after some storage.

Does this sound like normal wear to you guys???

Sounds like normal wear for the rears. I get about 4000 mi on set of PS2 rears.

Unfortunately the ware you describe is "normal". You can go to an even harder tire but your handling will suffer somewhat. Tire ware is just the penalty we have to pay for a good handling sports car.

Poke around the forum a bit and you'll find this is quite common for our cars.

I have gotten as little as 4000 miles on my PS2's, but I normally get 5-6K on a set of rears. That is one reason I bought another set of wheels and put some inexpensive Nexin's on them. The Nexin wear well, but I rarely use them because they dont stick like the PS2's.

I have high performance BF Goodridge g-force tires, which are great for non-autocross/racing. These where on the car when I bought it, and I have put about 14k miles on them and they still have plenty of tread, at least another 14k miles probably closer to 20k. I have used them to autocross and was fairly competitive, and I do not go easy on them around town either.

If you can sacrifice a little performance you can get tires for the Boxster that will last 35K+ miles.

12,000 sounds reasonable for those conti's, but only 4,000 out of PS2's! Dang, were they all track miles?

Track, AX, and canyon carving mostly. My car is a weekend toy so it rarely sees much highway mileage.

And I change out before the wear bars. I have an '01S TIP with the suspension aligned for even tire wear. No track use.

If your wear is even across the tread and you are not drivng the car hard, your alignment is probably off (unless your seats and trunks never have more than 170 pounds).
