Boxster A/C

My wife and I took the 2001S out for a drive and some errands Sat am here in muggy Virginia. Since it was already 88 degrees, we kept the top up and turned on the AC for the first time since buying it last fall (did not need AC in CO).

I set the automatic control on 72 degrees and felt the AC was a pretty good unit, cooling the cabin nicely. The engine fans kicked on and kept engine temps down while idling in some crazy stop and go traffic for about 10 mins...pretty happy with the A/C cooling powers and performance. Bob - Humid VA...

I live in Phoenix. My Boxster's A/C is the only one out of four cars I own that works under the most extreme (e.g. 116+ deg. F) conditions. Cools down fast, stays cold, even when sitting in traffic. My BMW, Siena, and Fit's A/C systems are nowhere near as good.

88 degrees and you put the top up? Blasphemy It's been 101+ every day here in Austin for the last two months and I still can't bring myself to put the top up. But I guess coming from CO I understand.

FWIW, I drove around last night with the top down at about 9 PM. It was still about 103 deg. F. Even with the sun down it was like driving into a gigantic blow dryer.

If you are going to build A/C into a convertible, it's gotta be good or it's pointless.

My limit so far has been 95F, if I can't maintain 60mph at that speed, the top goes up. Or when sunburn dictates.

errands + wife + 88degrees/100% humidity = A/C (30 years marriage)

She did not ask, I thought it was a kind gesture....

My top was up and a/c on today and it was 88 also. The humidity here was 1.8million % though so it felt good to have a/c.
