Oil Leak: Engine (with pictures)

So, I was changing my air filter when i noticed a decent amount of, it appears, oil on the engine hose (sorry, not sure what you call those lol)

Here are some pics.

Can anyone take a guess as to what this is from ?

Interesting. Thanks for your reply. I guess I should take it into the shop before the CEL comes on.

if it is found to be the AOS, there are lots of discussion and DIY info on replacing AOS. I had it replaced at local Porsche dealer.
there seems to be two AOS's . one which is the latest and the second unit is "motorsport" flavor... more heavy duty??
can someone chime in here with more details.

i did not realize this and had it replaced with standard one. you may want to consider asking for the heavy duty flavor $$$$$$?
good luck

I'm not a weekend mechanic and there are plenty of threads here for air oil separator (AOS).
i'm told that it is a larger capacity positive crankcase ventilation. Keeps the oil vapor in the crankcase while venting unwanted pressure into the intake manifold.

I did not pay attention to it till it failed. when my car's failed, a white plume of smoke 50 to 75 feet up in the air as wide as the street.

"mosquito fog" as stated by a member.

Fitting the motorsport AOS is a decent size job, it's not just plug and play. Also, the cost of the motorsport part is about 5 times the cost of the standard.

Interesting, I was wondering how oil might have gotten onto my engine:

I haven't noticed any AOS problems, so hopefully it was already replaced, only had the car for a couple months.
