Removing Paint from Finish
Recently the wife drove my 986 through some freshly laid down red paint at the grocery store. Now I have hundreds of tiny specks of red paint on my black finish around all 4 wheel wells. What is the best way to get this off? Fine steel wool? Bug/tar remover? NuFinish/Polish? :(
Thanks in advance |
Use a clay bar.

gasoline soaked rag works well for me.

WD40 works well won't harm your paint, it's fish oil.

Sorry, but WD 40 is not fish oil. (I have no idea if it would or would not harm a car's finish. Probably not, if you washed it off as soon as it had done its job. I also don't know if it would remove paint or not. )

As mentioned, use a clay bar. Removing paint overspray safely is one of the primary reasons clay was adopted by the auto body repair industry. I would be leery using a lubricant such as WD-40 as you might have some paint adhesion issues in the future.
Realize that the clay will also remove any wax or acrylic protectants and these will need to be reapplied. Lubricate the clay and surface well with soapy water, and fold the bar often. This should work fine with little risk of ruining the paint. |
I was waiting for somebody to say WD40...
You learn something new here every week. |
I've used Wurth Citrus Degreaser on other cars for that purpose; works like a champ. If not available near you, also try 3M adhesive remover...works on paint too, with no ill affect.
