Porsche sport seats?

I am looking for late 986 or early 987 Box but I know with 100% certainty I need the sport seats (but not sport buckets). I have major back problems and have sat in both and the sport seats fit my body perfectly and felt great--standard seats I found uncomfortable after just 10mins.

Question:
1) are seats interchangeable between 986 and 987 (only care about driver seat really)

2) What would a new OEM seat cost? (expecting disgusting answer)

3) would it just be smarter to find aftermarket seats if I find one that is comfortable?

Any advice appreciated.

It will be easier and cheaper to buy a Boxster with any seats and then fit an aftermarket seat that is comfortable for you. There are plenty of aftermarket seats that would be far cheaper than buying new OEMs. Also I think the OEM 986 will not fit 987 and vice versa.

Bodies vary and if the sport seat suits you, try to find one used. I hated them cuz they pushed my shoulders forward and made my neck ache.

You can convert regular seats to sports with a new back install. Seems like about $1500 a pair. From Performance Parts IIRC.

If you go aftermarket make sure you get some seat time first. Recaro has some nice seats.

$1500 a pair for seatbacks?!?!?!?! Ouch!

I think I'll just hold out for one that has sport seats. Thanks all for the info..

Does any one know if there is any difference in the sport seats and the standard seats, with the exception of the shoulder height "wings", in the 986? Are the side bolsters larger or any other differences?

I hope someone with more experience chimes in to confirm....

But as I understand it, there IS a difference in the side bolsters. In fact, my dealer said that the reason most P-cars are ordered with standard seats vs sport is that larger framed drivers feel the bolsters in the Sport seats are too confining so they would need the Adaptive Sport seats so they can open them up and this just adds too much cost. EDIT: This was for 987! I didn't ask about 986.

Again, hoping someone else confirms.

When I sat in both I found the standard sport seats kept my shoulders from opening up fully--like they were being scrunched forward---I found it very uncomfortable. The openings in the "wings" as you put it allowed my shoulders to snuggle in better-- fit like a glove. I didn't pay attention to side bolsters to note the difference. Probably because I'm small at 5' 7" and 135lbs!!

Does anyone have any experience in changing seats in a boxster? I took out the original seats in my 1999, and had purchased some replacement seats from Ebay that I had reupholstered. For some reason, I can't get the seats to go down....power is working..but they won't go down....any ideas?

Thanks in advanced..

Old thread, sorry. But in comparing pictures of the 986 sport seats and standard seats, the bolstering looks the same on both the sides and bottom cushion, just the wings are added. According to some older posts by "IowaS" this is the case, does anyone else have experience with them? Do they both have the same adjustments, both manual and electric as well? It looks like there's an electric seat height adjustment, but maybe not? So are they the same weight?
