Don't use your fingernail, you'd be surprised how that can leave a bunch of tiny scratches on the paint.
When I bought my Seal Gray Boxster it was covered in tree sap. It was well worth the $150 to get it professionally detailed and those guys know every trick in the book to get stuff off the paint without damaging it.
