The motor had the early problem that other Boxster motors suffered from, poor casting or maching . The cylinder would slip and allow the piston to hit one or all of the valves and no compression.
Sunset Porsche at first said no way, then the factory rep called and said bring your car in , new motor, thank you thank you.
Still trying to get past the breakin , washing the car this am and taking it out for an "air dry" later.

Sunset Porsche

Thanks for the response Craig, interesting. I assume Sunset is the Porsche dealer in Portland, are they any good? We don't have a Porsche dealer in Medford, the nearest one is in Bend. Have you heard anything about the Bend guys? There may be one on Redding, but I haven't checked yet.

I resent that the far superior midnight blue is lumped in with all the pedestrian blues. Harumph.

"Pedestrain blues????" Pardon gentlemen. Blues are awesome, perhaps holding the best shine (I know, blacks are "shinners" too). I can see reflections in the paint matching a mirror in my Lapis Blue car.

This is a good topic as I am in the market for a used boxster.
I am trying to make up my mind on a color between AS and Black. So hard to decide. I see that the AS and black are neck and neck.

I have always liked black on cars as they look great when they are clean. Since the Boxster is a small car, I dont think that cleaning is a problem.
AS looks great on a Boxster, it seems to make the car look so original. Like it was meant to be silver. Do you remember the boxster commercial? you know the one I am talking about right?

Maybe I will wait to see the result of this Poll to see what is the best color.

yeah it makes sense that AS and black are the most popular colors. I was trying to make the same decision you are trying to make a few years ago. Ultimatly I decided to go with AS, let me explain. In the long run dirt and scratches show up more on solid colors like black. With AS the car can get dirty, a little scratched and noone can barely tell. Unlike black when it gets dirty it tends to stand out a little more, in my opinion.

Reasonable logic. My car's color is dark; lapis Blue, which shines beyond ones imagination. So I guess the trade-off is intense, mirror-like shine vs. low maintenance, etc.

In either case, you will not go wrong with any P-car color. Thank G_D, we have more choice then the Henry Ford approach ("You can have any color, as long as it is black").

Yeah, "986s". Post something worthy then. This is not riveting by any means, but I think it's decent. Basically because I read somewhere that 60% of Boxsters sold are silver (and I doubted that). Certainly not a scientific poll, but worth the quick glance.

Poll on everyone...

1st car : 98 Silver on black interior (favorite color for the car) when I was in San Diego's moderate climate

2nd Car: 00s White on beige interior in Houston where it is March-October @ 95+ freaking degrees out. Gosh darn it...The damn pool is 75 at the end of February. It's crazy.

Poll on...

Would have liked to see more color choices in the poll. There are at least 4 reds out there and I searched a long time to find my arena red car. I specifically did not want a bright guards red car.

I recammend the classic porsche color guards red. It caught my eye right off the bat. It may be alittle bit of a cliche' sports car color, but thats only because it is the best!

Silver seems to be Prosche's traditionalist color, doesn't do 2 much for me, I dont own a 986 as of yet, but Basalt Black, and Cobalt blue are my favorite's.

Mine is Basalt Black Metallic. I love it. I was originally planning on the Seal Grey Metallic, but they had a BBM in the show room and I said "wow, that’s what I want."
