My 17" track wheels have Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec and 18" street wheels are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. I have been pleased with both tires and either is in your price range. That both are Dunlops just worked out that way. Prior to this I ran Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position but their price is significantly higher.
FYI for the Star Spec in 17" you need to get a 225/45-17 front. It fits just fine. Price from Tire Rack is $129 front and $161 rear.
As an inexpensive tire many say good things about the Sumitomo HTR Z III.
