Good Buy?

Recently lost my Honda S2000 to an errant driver (totaled). I am looking at a 1999 Boxster with 64,000 miles, very clean. Seller wants $13,000. Good idea or not? What should I look for? Any help would be appreciated, I can't drive the rented Hyundai I'm in for much longer without losing my mind. Please respond!!!!!!!

I wouldnt pay 13 for a 1999.

I would consider a 2000 or newer to step up to the 2.7l or the S 3.2l... It is not rare for 2003 base boxsters to go for 15k anymore. You will be saving yourself on the maintenance end by buying the newest lowest mileage car you can find.

Go to www.cars.com to get a better idea of asking prices for 99 Boxsters with miles to what you are looking at.

forget a pre-2000.

you get a 2.7L motor if you go 2000+. if you go 2001+ you get a three spoke wheel on a base model. call me petty, but I got a 2000 with an upgraded steering wheel..and honestly,t he 3 spoke wheel makes teh car feel/look far more modern. on 01+ the wheel is a 3 spoker.

on 03+ models, you get a more modern look, glvoe box, and a BIG sellign point - glass window.

i'd look for a 2003+. in this market, i would htink you could get an 03 for the same ballpark price.

I know what you're saying about the three spoke steering wheel. It doesn't seem like much, but I really like it in my Boxster S - plus the silver crest on the air bag.

As for the car - I agree that I've seen 2000 Boxster S's on here for $15K to $17K lately. I'd think you could get a newer standard Boxster for the $13K that you're looking to spend.

Excellence magazine always says to buy the newest, nicest Porsche that you can afford. You won't regret it.
