same gear ratios in both?

Are you doing this for expected performance gains? Looks like quite a project, kudos for having the gonads to tear into her that far.

The tread on those BFGoodrich's looks sick!

I've heard they get LOUD though after just a couple of thousand miles.

I am not looking for performance gains from it. My tranny was making a noise so I had a great deal on this tranny so I just scooped it up yesterday. As for the ratios. 1,2,3,4, are all the same. 5th and the final drive are just alittle bit different. All and all the tranny bolted up no problems at all EXCEPT. The axles do not bolt up. AHHHHHHHHH....
on the 99 2.5 5 speed the axle bolts that go to the tranny are 8mm bolts and the cayman uses 10mm bolts. I am going to pull my axles out tomorrow and see if they can be drilled, machined out. If so I will just source the correct 10mm bolt with the right length and hopefully be done with it. I will update later on tomorrow.

AS for the the tires. They got great ratings, have a good tread wear and I don't care about tire noise. My car car is loud already with exhaust, headers, intake and oh yea a 3.4 aaaaaannnnnd vibrates with the solid front mount already.

Cool! You have a Frankenbox (Boxenstein? Frankenster?)

This was like my Jeep....something would break and I would upgrade it and find
out there were more downstream parts that didn't work, so they would get upgraded.
As it stands, I have Mopar, Ford, Chevy, and Benz parts in it...still looks stock though.

I've got the same tires on right now (they came with the car). I can vouch that they are not very noisy, or at least not enough to bother me. The treadwear is great and they look slick, not your usual tread pattern. Good look with the tranny. :cheers:

Well I took out the axles and drilled them out to 10mm. I went to porsche and scored some cayman axle to tranny bolts. They may be a little short but there good to check my fitment right now. The carreras use the same bolts but are a bit longer so I may wind up getting those and then all should be good. I took some photos but I don't have time to post them up right now. Check back maybe I will get them up tomorrow.

That's cool if you already drilled out the axles. I think there was a transition though when Porsche switched from 8 mm to 10 mm bolts and there was some kind of transmission transition fix they used. I seem to recall reading about it in a service manual. No worries though, you came up with your own fix.

Well Jaay, it looks as if you're gaining a few fans here with your work, me included. I shot you a PM (your inbox is full BTW) regarding tranny removal. Your project reminds me of a good friend and myself having NOS wars 20 plus years back, we'd bet on finding the weakest link (money on which part) in the driveline when increasing the base plates :D .

Perhaps I missing something, but why didn't you just swap the stub axles?

Well to go on with what I am doing whether it is wrong or right. Here is what I have been doing.

How I got the axle out. It actually came out very easy

Stub axles are held in by a snap ring and simply press out by placing a flat piece of stock behind the flange and thread a bolt into the bolt hole. In my opinion, a much better way of fixing the issue without drilling the CV joint.

I did try to pop them out with no luck. I didn't want to break them so I just figures they were stuck In there. Either way I already drilled out the other axles and I located the correct bolts and all should be good now. I wish I knew that they popped out though. Thanks.
