E-Bay Key & fob
Mitch, I would get a quote from Sunset Imports first before purchasing
off of e-bay. Sunset Imports is a factory dealer and their pricing is probably close if not better than the e-bay pricing and you know that it will be a genuine Porsche product. Chris Dyer |
Sunset is cheaper by over $30. You must have your key programmed by a dealer.
My dealer does it for free if you buy the key from him so factor that in. |
Key and fob
Just e-mailed Sunset to get a price. Thanks for the sugestion.

I bought a used Boxster key off ebay for $40. Then bought the blank key head from another seller on ebay for $6. Took it to my dealer and they charged me $100 to cut and program it. :)
The problem with that key pictured above is it's the Carrera key and you won't be able to pop both trunks with the key. |
i wouldn't trust ebay sellers with Boxster keys. I heard too many stories of people getting burnt. I went this way when i lost my key

Did your used key come with the barcode?

Ebay key OK
I bought a FOB from Ebay and it worked fine. You just have to make sure it comes with a 16 character bar code on a white tag. I also bought a key blank on Ebay. The problem with that was that it was a cheap knock off that broke the Porsche key machine. So I ended up buying a key blank from Porsche and paying a half hour service fee to program my new FOB. Overall I probably saved about $200. Make sure the Ebay seller has a return policy.

It is the proper key - PN# 996.637.243.0x for the early cars w/o the elec. frunk opener. |
Sunset worked for me...
Very easy - I just ordered a factory cut key with the remote head and then had Sunset cut me an extra key with the non-remote head. Took them to my local dealer who programmed them both for $50.
