When I opened the top to replace the engine air filter the rubber thingy that holds the fabric in was half out and when i touched it it all came out. See pics.

How do I get it back in. It's about to rain any time! I'm going to cover it up with plastic.

If anyone has ever replaced the fabric of the convertable they must have solved this problem.

There's no picture in your posting, so I can't see what you're talking about, but here's full instructions as to how to remove/replace the fabric from the frame of the convertible top, so this should help...

The rubber strip sagging is the problem. It goes in the groove with thefabric of the top.

Start at one end of the clamshell. Line up the rubber weather stripping with the groove and shove it in. Work your way around pulling the rubber tight and pushing it into the groove as you go so that it lines up at the far end. Really there isn't anything to it.

I got it back in before the storm. I guess I panicked when I saw the dark clouds suddenly appearing.

I know you may have already done this but the Bentley book implies that you must get the top in the service mode to replace the air filter. You don't have to just work inside the car. This applies to replacing the groovy belt as well. You might have to donce from one side of the car to another but its one thing you do not have to do especially if you may have a storm. Just keep the top up almost 4 inches from opening and work for here.
