The only thing that phazes me about that merger is that rumored 2011 boxster that's supposed to have a 4-cyl 2.0 engine. Yay for the BoxS2000ster or something.

I've been following this story for quite some time and it makes a lot of sense for both parties. Merging the maufacturing operations ensures cost and production controls for the parent company, Porsche SE (holding company owned by the Porsche and Piech families).

Porsche SE had to leverage to purchase the VW shares and a merger of the manufacturing operation could reduce the parent's debt substantially.

Got my Road & Track last night - it also has a small article on the new 4 cyl. Box. Smaller, lighter, less expensive, better performing - I believe were the descriptors. Also gave a 270 HP number.

Just reporting what I saw - don't know how good their info is at this stage.
