Help me decide new wheel color

I bought a set of carrera 5 spokes about two months ago that came from the factory with black painted spokes. turns out, they did a crappy job of piainting them and the black is already starting to flake off. So, Porsche is going to warranty them and have me go to a local wheel shop that does great work for the re-paint...(www.wheeltechniques.com)...so now I can choose whatever color scheme I want.
The car is Biarritz white with black top / interior, and I want to stick with something dard on the wheel. the current black is a high gloss, with the standard Porsche silver around the rim. I'm thinking of something less shiny for the spokes...maybe matte black or even a drak gunmetal grey since the shiny black is almost too black for the top / other black parts on the car. I'm thinking of sticking with a two-tone where the lip is a light grey (but darker than the current silver). I'm pretty sure white around the lip would be too much.
What do you think?

Nah, you gotta stick w/ the gloss black and silver edge that you have now. First of all, it looks AMAZING, but also -- I think the matte black that you're considering would look dirty, unfinished, and would have the image of a full-sized spare. Also, the glossy (clearcoated) paint makes it a lot easier to remove brake dust with just soap and water.

Stick w/ the gloss black!!!

Leave the lacquered edge, but change the black to slate grey - gets a bluey hue whn the sun hits it, but looks black the rest of the time.

Gunmetal gets my vote

I like the spokes in gun metal but only if you have the lip polished brightly.
It looks really cool with reld calipers and drilled rotors see my pics

I'd paint the inside of you intakes the gun metal color as well to add some
contrast to all the white.

My Autocross tires on my old miata were five spoke gun metal with a polished
inside barrel and polished outside lip. Lost count of all the questions and compliments.

hey that silver on silver looks really good.
Have you consider painting the back of your roll bar in the body color?

I scheduled a tech session with Wheel Tech.

May have to postpone it because there is a local drive the same day.

drive / meet

tool pants, I think I'll join that drive as well (assuming you're talking about the one that meets at carlsen at 9:30 next sat?).
I'm looking forward to a work on cars day soon too since I missed the last one (that being the first one since I've owned my 986)...I've still got a B&M and evo linkage to install.

Tdog,
is your car lowered? I just got a quote on the Carreras with NO Dunlop Sp 9090 for $3k delivered. I'm looking into the tires I may want something a little racier but Porsche seems to think they are good for the Boxster.

tdog 02-12-2005 01:12 AM

Perfectlap, my car is lowered with HR spring, and yes, I would love to have my roll bar body color matched as well as some of interior parts. But I dont know how much work is involved to remove the rollbar and have them painted. I might sell the boxster and get a S or even the 987, So if I do I'm planning to sell the liptronic headlite and the carerra to forum members unless the future owner wants them.

Looks like the drive is cancelled. But not the wheel tech session in Santa Clara.
