Key remote battery dying

My battery keeps dying in my key remote. It takes about 3-4 days for it to be so dead that it won't transmit anymore. Is there a fix to this other than getting a new unit? It seems that it would have something to do with the circuit that the battery plugs into. As if it constantly is draining even when the button isn't depressed. The light only comes on when the button is pressed. I wasn't sure if maybe the circuit can be replaced without having to spend money on anything else.

Can't just replace the chip. But, you can clean it. Get some electronics cleaner and give it a shot. Could be something as simple as a piece of solder or conductive dust shorting one of the circuits. Also, be sure that the buttons operate properly and do not stick.

not a solution, just sharing the same problem
the same happened to my son's vw remote. in his case he washed the key with his pants.
I'm an EE and tried to find out the problem, ultrasonic cleaning, etc. no good.
remote runs out of juice in about a week.. just a crap shot.
that remote uses the same battery 1032 as my 01 box.
his remote is in our drawer. haven't been use in 7 years
